Vridh Badri

Vridh Badri is one of the five Badri in the Panch Badri yatra. Vridh Badri is located in the state of Uttarakhand, in north-west India.

Before Badrinath was designated as one of the four Char Dhams by Adi Shankaracharya, the idol of Badrinath carved by divine Vishwakarma was enshrined and worshipped at  Vridh Badri. It is said that when mankind entered the Kali Yug, Vishnu chose to remove himself  from the temple. Interestingly the image was found by Adi Shankaracharya at NaradKund, and restored. This, the first Badri, is located at the height of 1,380 mtrs. at Animath.

While Badrinath closes during winter and the idol and priests spend the wintermonths at Joshimath, Vridh Badri remains opens throughout the year.
