Uttarakhand Information Centre

Gairsen or Gairsain (Hindi: गैरसैण) is a village in the centre of the young Indian state of Uttarakhand, This village was choosen as the location of the newly born state’s future capital. The site was chosen in 1994 by the supporters of the Uttarakhand separate state movement due to its central location close to both the Garhwal and Kumaon regions. since the state’s inception in 2000.

 Dehradun hoewever, the largest city in the region, has been the provisional capital of Uttarakhand ever since independence.
